Elysia McLaughlin, formerly of Wooster, won the First Year Teacher of the Year award in Osceola County Schools in Florida. McLaughlin, who is the daughter of David and Amy McLaughlin, graduated from Ashland University in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.

McLaughlin was hired in the Osceola County Schools after teaching at the school as part of Ashland University’s Southern Internship Program. She was the first student to participate in the program and stayed at Celebration K-8 after her internship there. She is now a first grade teacher and lives in Celebration, Fla.

“She is an excellent representation of the high quality of students that our faculty produces,” said Joseph A. Hendershott, director of the Office of Field Experiences and Internships.
