Ironing it out

Two little slug irons bought years ago are unique and pretty hard to come by. The small iron was brought from Germany and dated 1840 and was primarily used to iron ladies’ bonnets. The large iron had three slugs, two to be left on the stove heating, which could be exchanged when the iron became too cool. My wife tried to heat a slug on our stove and iron a shirt with it and declared it a tough job compared with today’s electric irons!
