The career expo is free and open to students, graduates and residents from the community. The event will feature more than 55 employers and will offer opportunities to network, apply for full-time jobs, part-time jobs, summer jobs, internships and professional career opportunities. There will also be numerous speakers and career workshops covering topics such as resumes, interviewing, labor market information, financial aid, and job search tips for ex-offenders. Additionally, there will be job training providers and social service agencies on hand to assist with career needs. A special keynote speaker is scheduled for 10 a.m. in the Wayne College auditorium.
“Over 500 people attended last year and we expect a huge crowd again this year,” said Carol Pleuss, coordinator of career and assessment service. “In addition to a rebounding national economy we’re excited to see more local job openings this year, which should make the fair a great opportunity for job-seekers.”
The career expo is sponsored by many local organizations, including the Common Good Organization, which is a regional consortium of local social service agencies; the Wayne County Employment and Training Connection; the Wayne, Holmes and Ashland County Departments of Job and Family Services; the Wayne County Economic Development Council; Wayne County Veterans Outreach Services; the Rehabilitation Services Commission; Community Action of Wayne and Medina Counties; OSU/ATI; Mature Services; the Mental Health and Recovery Board of Wayne and Holmes Counties; the Counseling Center; the Wayne County Schools Career Center; Goodwill Industries of Wayne and Holmes Counties; STEPS; the Family Learning and Development Center; Wayne Metropolitan Housing Authority; Your Human Resource Center of Wayne and Holmes Counties; the Bureau of Vocational Rehabilitation; and The University of Akron Wayne College.
