Milton Purdy

Milton E. Purdy, 84, of Wooster, died May 4, 2011, at his residence, following a period of declining health.

Milton was born May 17, 1926, in Killbuck, to the late Herman J. and Cecille M. Purdy. He graduated from Wooster High School in 1944. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46 as a sergeant with Company I, 405th Infantry, 102nd Division in Central Europe. He had been employed as a machinist at Borg-Warner Co., Wooster, for 17 years and at Johnson Controls, Manchester, Mich., for 16 years, retiring in 1995.

Milton was a member of First Baptist Church and the American Legion in Wooster. He enjoyed woodworking, traveling with his late wife, Jean, his cat, Molly, and was a Cleveland Indians and Ohio State fan.

Surviving are daughters, Sandy Stewart of Orrville and Cindy Munford of Akron; son, Larry J. (Veronica) Purdy of Missouri; stepdaughter, Debra (Billy) Hill of Texas; stepson, Will (Bonnie) Schuch of Texas; nine grandchildren, Jay, Christopher, Cory, Jamie, Shelly, Lori, Heather, Lyndsi, and Cami; several great-grandchildren; brother, Dean (Marilyn) Purdy of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and sister, Eva Doris Boldman of Louisville, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Schuch, whom he married in 1995; and son, Steve Purdy.

Services were held May 7, at Auble Funeral Home, Orrville, with Pastor Ermon French officiating. Burial was in Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
