Senior recognition ceremony set for May 24

The Wayne County Schools Career Center will celebrate the accomplishments of seniors and other second-year students at the fifth annual Senior Recognition Ceremony on Tuesday, May 24. The event will be in the Boyer Gymnasium at the University of Akron Wayne College, 1901 Smucker Road, Orrville, beginning promptly at 7 p.m. All students should be at Wayne College by 6:30 p.m.

All seniors, 13th-year students and their families and friends are invited to attend. There are no limits on the number of guests for each student. Handicap seating will be available.

All Wayne County superintendents, principals and guidance counselors have been invited, and other educators may attend as well. Each student attending will be recognized, walk across the stage, and receive a certificate of achievement.

Selected students will lead the program. Top seniors in each career-technical program will receive plaques, and the Student of the Year will be named. Scholarship winners, certificate of achievement winners, and academic award winners will receive their awards earlier in the day at school, but will be recognized as well that evening. Students with two years of perfect attendance will receive awards, and other students who have received special awards throughout the school year and those placing in the top 10 at state and national contests will be recognized.

Four distinguished alumni, who have been successful in their careers and in their communities, will be honored. They are Michael Decker, finance specialist; Monie Holmes, drafting; Mark Morrison, welding; and Julie Huff Wyatt, medical/dental assisting.
