There was a little fire and Ice during the Hershey Track and Field Games, which were held at Wooster High School June 14.

The Hershey Games have been an annual event in Ohio for 34 years and the State meet will take place in Columbus on July 9. The winners from the competition in Wooster will advance to the State competition, which will be held at Olentangy Orange High School.

The Ice sisters, who are members of the Wayne County Track Club, will help lead the local contingent to Columbus. Sara Ice won a pair of events in the 9-10 age group, taking top honors in the softball throw with a toss of 101 feet and the 200-meter dash (37.2). Older sister Sami won three events in the 11-12 age group, winning the softball throw (125-0), the 400 (1:10.0) and the 200 (30.6) to punch her ticket to State.

In the 9-10 age group, Zoe Dellaserra won a run-off with Sara Ice to take the 50 for one of her three wins. She also added top performances in the 100 (16.3) and the standing long jump (5-6).

In the girls 11-12 group, Audrey Bishop won a pair of events, taking the long jump (6-4) and the 100 (14.9), while Melita Wiles captured the 800 with a time of 2:50.

Iesha Davis captured three wins in the girls 13-14 age group, taking the 200 (31.2), 800 (2:54) and the standing long jump (6-9).

DeZion Taylor had a big meet for the 9-10 boys with blue ribbons in the 100 (14.7), 200 (32.0) and the standing long jump (6-3). Lonnie Harper won the softball throw (110-8), while Marlin Questel was first in the 400 (1:34.0)

Cole Smith won twice for the 11-12 boys, turning a 31.0 in the 200 and getting off a leap of 7-4 in the long jump. Caleb Walters won the softball throw (135-0), while two other races went down to the wire. Jornell Manns edged Avalonn Harper in the 100 with a winning time of 14.5, while Nick Miller outsprinted Gavin Stika in a competitive 800 (2:43.9). Thomas Kiah won the 400 with a time of 1:13.4.

The 13-14 boys bracket was dominated by Kevin White and Brevin Harris. White won the SLJ (7-8.5), 800 (2:33.4) and 1600 (5:23), while Harris won the 100 (14.0), 200 (29.3) and the softball throw (158-3).

The Hershey Local has been in Wooster for nearly three decades thanks to the Wooster Parks and Recreation Department, which has helped annually to sponsor the event. The Wayne County Track Club, which is also sponsored by Wooster Parks and Recreation, helped run the meet.
