Marvin was born May 15, 1923, near Benton, to the late Asa and Ida Hostetler. He was a 1940 graduate of Louisville High School and had attended Goshen College for one year. He served in the Civilian Public Service during WWII at Glacier National Park and had been employed for 31 years at Horst Manufacturing Co., Dalton, as a machine operator and purchasing agent, retiring in 1995.
Marvin was a member of Orrville Mennonite Church, where he served as an elder, trustee, Sunday school and Bible school teacher. He also was the leader of the Bible Memory Program at the church and served on numerous committees and held various offices for Camp Luz for 36 years. He played fast pitch softball in his younger years and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are sons, Dale (Nancy) Hostetler of North Lawrence and Owen (Lori) Hostetler of Orrville; daughters, Faye (Richard) Overholt of Fredericktown, Rita (Ken) Wenger of Orrville, Marla (Rodney) Nussbaum of Wooster, and Jane (Eddie) Steiner of Millersburg; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers, David Hostetler of Phoenix, Ariz., Elmo (Linda) Hostetler of Sunbury, and Glenn Hostetler of Louisville; sister, Herma (Jay) Miller of Orrville; brothers-in-law, Robert Stoltzfus of Orrville and Elvin Sommers of Plain City; and sister-in-law, Marlene Hostetler of Louisville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen M. Taylor, whom he married Oct. 25, 1945; brother, Leon Hostetler; and sisters, Edith Stoltzfus and Nellie Sommers.
Services will be held July 1, at 11 a.m., at Orrville Mennonite Church, with Rev. Bill Seymour officiating. Burial will take place in Martins Mennonite Church Cemetery. Friends may call June 30, from 5-8 p.m., at Auble Funeral Home, Orrville, or one hour prior to services at the church.
