Carmela E. Shields, 93, of Wooster, died August 14, 2011, at West View Manor Nursing Home.

Carmela was born May 25, 1918, in Wooster, the daughter of the late Alfino and Paulina DiPasqua. She married Edward Shields on July 4, 1942. He died in 1997.

She was a homemaker and had also worked for the former Wooster Preserving Co. and Regal Ware. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Martha’s. She also volunteered at Wooster Community Hospital.

Surviving are children, Katherine Shields, Judith (Rick) Duta, and Janet (Dave) Cermely, all of Wooster; grandchildren, John and Kristin Duta and Jessica, Ryan, and Brianna Cermely; and great-granddaughter, Carmela Duta.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by siblings, Anthony, Mary Casper, and Edith Beck.

A service of Christian burial was held August 17, at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, Wooster, with Deacon Bernie Hosfeld officiating. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery.
