“We have many working women who tell us they don’t have time to come. But those who do say it was well worth it—it was a vacation day for them,” said Karen Oyer, cochair of the planning committee. “We want the women to feel special and pampered for the day. We share the message of hope and encouragement in Christ. It’s a fun, upbeat day, not a ‘churchy’ day.”
This year’s special guest speaker will be Renee Swope of North Carolina. Swope is a national speaker, author of A Confident Heart and cohost of Proverbs 31 Ministries’ international radio program. She connects with women of all ages and stages in life, helping them to find confidence in Christ by living daily in the security of God’s promises.
The theme of this year’s conference is Road Trip: Travel Essentials for Life. Swope will share seven travel essentials for every woman’s journey, such as the importance of taking time for rest stops and making room for road construction so God can fill the potholes in your heart, moving past roadblocks such as comparison and control, and traveling with peace in your heart and purpose in your path.
This is the 16th year Wooster Grace Brethren has offered the women’s conference. A team of 12 works year-round to plan and host the event, complete with ‘over-the-top’ decorating, Oyer said. “We’re obviously competing with a lot of other women’s conferences these days. Because we’re smaller, we can do a lot of special little touches that make people feel pampered.”
After breakfast, attendees will be able to browse a shopping area set up by Berean Bookstore, Audrey’s Attic, Friendtique, The Candy and Nut Shoppe, and P. Graham Dunn. The rest of the day’s schedule will include a morning and afternoon session with Swope and two breakout sessions. Breakfast and lunch will be catered by Panera Bread.
This year’s breakout sessions include: Travel with Purpose, ReCalculating, Pack Your Bags – Let’s Go!, Bread for the Journey, Traveling with Girlfriends, a Beth Moore Video – Stepping Up: A Journey Through the Psalms of Ascent, and The Power of a Purpose-Driven Mom.
Only about a third of the women attending the conference each year are members of Wooster Grace Brethren, Oyer said. The rest come from all over Northeast Ohio. “Come by yourself or bring someone with you—it’s a great way to spend time with a friend or family member.”
Preregistration for the conference is required. Registration is limited to 550 and often closes early, so sign up soon if you plan to attend. Total cost for the day is $30, and includes breakfast, lunch and all materials. Information and a registration brochure are available at http://www.woostergrace.org. Click on the Road Trip!
