Richard Uhl

Richard E. Uhl, 79, of Holmesville, died Sept. 5, 2011, at Pomerene Hospital, Millersburg, following an extended illness.

Richard was born April 17, 1932, in Millersburg, to the late Harry B. and Elsie Mae Uhl. He had worked for The College of Wooster and Regal Ware. He was a little league coach in Millersburg for many years and volunteered several years at the Millersburg Elementary as a crossing guard. He was a life member of the DAV and the Holmesville American Legion. Richard was a retired U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and received a Purple Heart. He was a coin and sports collector and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. Richard loved his grandchildren and enjoyed the time he spent with them.

Surviving are his wife, Virgie M. Uhl, whom he married Sept. 14, 1963; children, Rick (Verlinda) Uhl of Texas, Steve Uhl of Mexico, Teresa Quinsberry of Illinois, Duane Jr. (Carolyn) Uhl of West Virginia, and Brandi (Junior) Yoder of Wooster; 11 grandchildren, Michael, Alex, Brittany, Aaron, Jessica, Tabitha, Bryan, Erica, Jennifer, Cordell, and Wesley; great-grandchildren, James, Trey, Abigail, Rebecca, Carter, and several others; brother, Donald “Doby” Uhl of Mt. Eaton; daughter-in-law, Jenny Uhl of Dalton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sons, Todd Alan, Kevin David, and Craig Steven Uhl; brothers, John, Bill, Weldon, and Arlis Uhl; sisters, Zelda and Mildred; and his mother-in-law, Blanche Channell.

Services were held Sept. 9, at Alexander Funeral Home, Millersburg, with Charles Lunsford officiating. Burial was in Fredericksburg Eastside Cemetery, with military rites being conducted by the Killbuck VFW.
