Remington leaves service in Holmes County to be with family

A woman well-known in Holmes County for her years as an educator and public servant resigned from the health board Friday, Sept. 16, due to her relocating out-of-county.

In a letter of resignation to Health Commissioner Dr. D.J. McFadden, Carol Remington said she will be leaving the county she has called home for the last 48 years to be with family.

“I’ve loved working with the people of Holmes County,” Remington said. “It is a wonderful place to live and raise a family. I’ll stay connected in some way. Right now, I need to be a little closer to family.”

Remington, who is originally from Dover, moved to the area in 1962 after graduating from The Ohio State University. Her first job was director of the county’s 4-H program.

She taught at Killbuck elementary for 32 years, first for fifth grade and eventually would “teach every elementary grade but third,” Remington said.

She has held a seat on the health board for 10 years.

McFadden commended Remington on her service to the health district. McFadden said she has represented the district at state conventions and was active in campaigns for healthy living and cancer prevention, to name a few.

“Carol has been very dedicated,” McFadden said. “Every time I’m at a state convention, they ask about her. She has definitely been an asset.”

Remington said she will be locating to the Wooster area. Her resignation is effective Sept. 16.

Remington said her service with the health district and the health board has been an enlightening one.

“It’s been a pleasure and I’ve learned so much about the health issues that affect our community,” Remington said. “It’s important that people know what’s going on in these offices. This group is working for the best interests of this community.”

Fellow health board member Paul Miller said Remington is the kind of person who enriches the community she lives in.

“I think Wayne County and the Wooster area owe us on this one,” Miller said.
