Wooster branch of Apple Creek bank robbed

Wooster Police are looking for a female suspect in the Monday, Oct. 3 robbery of a Market Street bank.

According to Wooster Police Detective Sgt. Robert Merillat, the Market Street branch of Apple Creek Banking Company was robbed of an undisclosed amount of money at approximately 10:30 a.m.

The suspect, reported as a Caucasian female standing five feet four inches tall, approached a teller window and handed the teller a note demanding money. The suspect fled the bank on foot in an unknown direction.

The suspect is described as weighing between 180 and 190 pounds, with blue eyes, and was wearing a black zippered hooded sweatshirt with an unknown logo on the left chest. The suspect had the hood pulled over her head and no hair color was determined.

Merillat said police are following up several leads. He said it is the first time in his experience dealing with a female bank robber, and there “is no known correlation” with another female suspect hitting area banks.

Police have obtained images of the suspect from the bank’s surveillance system.

Jeff Smith, Apple Creek senior vice president, said the bank branch reopened after the robbery. No one was injured in the robbery, Smith said.

Merillat said the note contained no specific threat of violence and was composed of only “a demand for money.”

Anyone with additional information should contact Merillat at 330-287-5720.
