Corn show and dinner to take place Nov. 12

Valley College Grange in Wayne County will hold its annual Corn Show and Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 12. The event will feature a homemade meal featuring fried mush, cornmeal pancakes, “Grange recipe” sausage, hominy, applesauce and a relish plate. Serving times will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Corn Show, with both junior and senior divisions, will be located in the upper level of the Grange Hall, with entries open to all local and surrounding area corn growers. Entries can be for any variety of corn, and should consist of either 10 ears of corn or one quart of shelled corn. There will also be a class for the largest ear of corn. There is no entry fee and no advance registration required. Times for dropping off entries will be Thursday, Nov. 10, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday, Nov. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be cash prizes for first, second and third place winners for each class, and door prizes for everyone who enters.

As in past years, there will be free popcorn being popped throughout the day in the exhibit area, along with homemade items for sale from Grange members, and other agricultural displays.
