Fall program from Cantate Singers to be held Nov. 13

The Cantate Singers, a 50-voice select choir comprised of vocalists from Wayne, Holmes, Stark, Summit and Medina counties, will present its 2011 fall program on Sunday evening, Nov. 13, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Wooster, beginning at 7:30 p.m.

This performance, to be done with full orchestra, will feature a coronation anthem of Handel and the Bach cantata “Gloria in Excelsis Deo,” as well as shorter sacred works by Vaughan Williams, Mozart and Whitacre. Thomas Wood, professor of violin at The College of Wooster, will serve as concertmaster and Victoria Slowik will perform oboe concerto by Marcello.

The Cantate Singers was founded in 1992 by Freeman Lehman and has performed throughout northeastern Ohio. Since 2005, the choir has been under the direction of William Mateer.

There is no admission charge, but a free will offering will be collected to help defray the costs associated with the performance.

For additional information, contact William Mateer at 330-262-8106 or mateers@aol.com.
