Neal Mairs

Neal E. “Cork” Mairs died Dec. 17, 2011, at his home.

Cork was born Sept. 16, 1941, the son of the late Ray W. and Edna V. Mairs. On June 11, 1961, he married Karol Wood, who survives.

Cork was a 1960 graduate of Shreve High School and a lifetime farmer. He was a member of Plain Lutheran Church, past president of the Plain Cemetery Association, and a member of the Gnat Boxers Square Dancing Club and the Wayne County Saddle Club. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, his backyard fish pond, and attending livestock auctions.

In addition to his wife, Cork is survived by his children, Kimberly J. (Rob) Rhees, Jay T. Mairs, and Mary E. (Alan) Haven, all of Wooster, Ryan N. (Melissa) Mairs of Ashland, and Kurt R. (Jaeda) Mairs of Wooster; grandchildren, Lindsey Mairs, Nicholas Mairs, Andrew Mairs, Kara Rhees, Molly Rhees, Tyler Haven, Lane Haven, Troy Haven, Caleb Mairs, and Kane Mairs; brother, Max (Betty) Mairs of Wooster; and sister, Janet (Marion) Miller of Shreve.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Jean McDowell; brother-in-law, Paul McDowell; and his mother- and father-in-law, Norman and Jane Wood.

Services will be held Dec. 21, at 11 a.m., at McIntire, Davis & Greene Funeral Home, with Pastor Robert Moskowitz officiating. Burial will follow in Plain Lutheran Cemetery. The family will receive friends Dec. 20, from 4-8 p.m.
