“I do solemnly swear…”

As his daughter, Abby, looked on, Wooster Mayor Bob Breneman (L) took the oath of office from Wayne County Common Pleas Court Judge Corey Spitler (R) Dec. 19 in city council chambers at city hall. Prior to council’s last meeting of 2011, newly elected Council President Mike Buytendyk and At Large Representative Craig Sanders and returning 1st Ward Council Representative Mark Cavin and 3rd Ward Council Representative David Silvestri were also sworn in to office.

Before Wooster City Council wrapped up its business for 2011, four members of council and the mayor of Wooster took the oath of office surrounded by friends, colleagues and family members.

Administering the oath of office to incumbent Mayor Bob Breneman was Wayne County Common Pleas Court Judge Corey Spitler.

Spitler also swore in 3rd Ward Representative David Silvestri, who served in the dual roles of Council President Pro-Tem and Ward 3 Representative until the election of Mike Buytendyk in November.

After administering the oath of office to Council President Mike Buytendyk, Spitler swore in Craig Sanders as a new At Large Representative.

Administering the oath of office to 1st Ward Representative Mark Cavin was Wayne County Municipal Court Judge Carol White Millhoan.

In a break with tradition, the swearing in ceremony took place on Dec. 19 rather than prior to council’s first meeting of the year in January of 2012 “in order to provide for continuity of office from 2011 to 2012” according to Law Director Dick Benson.
