Frances Filkins

Frances L. Filkins, 84, a longtime Dover resident, died Dec. 28, 2011.

Frances was born June 29, 1927, in Wayne County, the daughter of the late True L. and Ozella L. Armstrong. A 1946 graduate of Shreve High School and a member of Dover’s Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, she will be remembered as a “favorite aunt,” as well as for her great personality and love of animals - especially dogs.

In her younger years, Frances enjoyed her work as a licensed cosmetologist and beautician, but spent the better part of her life as a homemaker, which she loved just as much.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas (Dorothy) Armstrong of Shreve; and nieces and nephews, Thomas (Laura) Allen, Richard Allen, Christine Calvert, George (Janet) Strassburger, Celia Pang, Cindy (Tim) Larson, Diane (Doug) Thompson, Mary (Jeff) Gindlesberger, and Jim (Pam) Armstrong.

For 54 years, Frances was married to the love of her life, Walter E. Filkins, who preceded her in death in 2010.

Services celebrating Frances’s life will be held Jan. 7, at 11 a.m., at Toland-Herzig Funeral Home & Crematory, Dover, with Rev. Jeff Gindlesberger officiating. Interment will be in Dover Burial Park. Friends may call one hour prior to services.

Family suggests memorial gifts be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 216 N. Wooster Ave., Dover; or the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 6985 Dover-Zoar Rd., Dover 44622.
