Strengthen your roots of health

Welcome 2012 with a healthy start! As part of the market’s mission to promote healthy eating, Local Roots Market and Café, in partnership with Wooster Communty Hospital, announces a 10-week series of conversations and meals to promote health management through good nutrition.

The Roots of Health Dinner Club meets Monday nights at 5:30 p.m. at Local Roots, from Jan. 23 through March 26. The cost for each evening’s meal and speaker is $12 for Local Roots members and $15 for non-members. Upcoming speakers and topics include:

Ÿ Jan. 30: Dr. Kenneth Shafer, cardiovascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic, will offer “Rationale for Plant-Based Nutrition,” with a vegan dinner accompanying the talk.

Ÿ Feb. 6: Marty Laska, licensed professional clinical counselor, will discuss “Food for Mental Health,” with a meal using ingredients chosen from a list of “good mood” foods.

Ÿ Feb. 13: Jenni Reusser will promote the health benefits of laughing by leading participants in a series of laughing exercises.

As a year-round market for locally-produced foods and other agricultural products, Local Roots Market is located at 140 S. Walnut St. in Wooster. The market is open weekdays, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m; and the café is open weekdays, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Membership is not required to shop.
