Grace Buchholz was honored for her accomplishment at the Jan. 24 meeting of the Wooster City School District board of education.
The Ohio Lottery’s Academic All Star program recognizes outstanding student leaders who have exhibited a commitment to academic excellence. Each month, the organization recognizes one student in each of nine geographic regions across the state of Ohio based on academic achievement, community involvement, citizenship, leadership in and out of the classroom and variety of other criteria.
“Grace is a very bright student who loves to participate in daily classroom activities and always does so with enthusiasm,” said Peg Butler, Kean Elementary School principal.
“Grace continually sets an excellent example for classmates by always turning in her assignments to the best of her ability,” said Butler, adding, “during group work she works with everyone and makes sure everyone participates and that directions are followed.”
“The district would like to congratulate Grace on this honor,” said Wooster City School District Superintendent Dr. Michael Tefs.
“We are all extremely proud of her and Kean Elementary School,” Tefs added.
As an Academic All Star, Buchholz received numerous items, including a certificate of excellence, a $50 Visa gift card and a variety of Ohio Lottery merchandise, including a jacket, sweatshirt and water bottle.
An article about Buchholz’s accomplishments has also been posted on the Ohio Lottery’s website.
To be eligible for the award, students must demonstrate academic excellence, responsibility, citizenship, and examples of leadership and school pride. Students should also be involved in extracurricular activities and community service.
Nominations for the award can be submitted by the school principal, faculty, staff, students and parents. Nomination forms are available on the Ohio Lottery’s website.
The Academic All Stars program is part of the Ohio Lottery’s larger Partners in Education program, which also includes recognizing outstanding K-12 teachers and faculty for their excellence in the classroom, leadership, creativity and community involvement and dedication on behalf of Ohio students through its Teacher of the Month program.
