Wayne SWCD sponsors annual tree sale

The Wayne Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is sponsoring its annual wildlife tree packet sale for windbreaks, reforestation, wildlife and other conservation plantings. The seedlings can be used for planting around ponds, backyards, and other areas.

This year there are several species available. The Colorado Blue Spruce, Eastern White Pine, Norway Spruce, and Hemlock are available in a bulk rate of 25 trees for $15. The same trees are also available in packets of 10 trees for $8. There are also four varieties of hardwood trees available in 10 trees per packet for $9. They are Red Oak, Pin Oak, White Oak and Walnut. For flowering trees, there are Red Bud and Common Lilac. They are also sold in packets of 10 for $9. Carolina Hybrid Poplar is sold in a packet of 10 for $6. A Wildflower mix of seeds native to Ohio is available 1/2 ounce for $3. Plant-Pak fertilizer, 20 cents each, and marking flags, 15 cents each, are also available. A carry over from last year is the rain barrel, selling for $80 each. They hold 50 gallons of water. They are great for recycling rain water into your gardens. The last item is a packet of five Dawn Redwood trees for $5.

Deadline for ordering wildlife packets is Feb. 23. The pickup date for the packets is Wednesday, April 11, from 1:30-6 p.m. at the Wayne County Fairgrounds (Sheep Building). All stock is state and federal inspected. It may be necessary for the SWCD to make reasonable substitutions based on availability of certain species. Order forms for the tree program are available online at http://www.wayneswcd.org, or at the SWCD office in the lower level of the Wayne County Administration Building, 428 W. Liberty St., Wooster. For more information, call 330-262-2836. Payment must be included with orders, which will be processed on a first-come basis.
