Monroe Mast

Deacon Monroe I. Mast, 94, of Wilmot, died peacefully Jan. 25, 2012, surrounded by his family, following a period of declining health.

Monroe was born June 24, 1917, in Holmes County, to the late Isaac and Amanda Mast, and married Mattie Weaver on Dec. 16, 1943. She died in 2011. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church and was ordained a deacon in 1946. He was a deacon for 65 years.

Monroe is survived by his children, Ivan (Susie) Mast of Millersburg, Alvin (Mary) Mast of the home, Mary (Edwin) Troyer of Apple Creek, Ella (Mose) Mast of Fredericksburg, and Esther (Ivan) Raber and Fannie (Joe) Bowman, both of Millersburg; 38 grandchildren; 94 great-grandchildren; and sister, Anna (Jonas) Yoder.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister, and four grandchildren.

Services were held Jan. 29, at the Merle Mast residence, with the church ministry officiating. Burial was in Yoder Cemetery, Paint Township, Holmes County.

Spidell Funeral Home, Mt. Eaton, handled arrangements.
