Two Rotary Exchange students toured the Wayne County Schools Career Center recently, getting a taste of 16 different career-tech programs. While visiting the utilities and alternative energy program, Ryan Hileman, of Triway, showed Coni Alvarez, of Chile (L), and Mora Zabala, of Argentina, how to splice fiber optics through a microscope. After Hileman lined the optics up, Zabala fine-tuned the splicing, and successfully spliced the two tiny cables. Instructor Rich Grimes said it was the best splice he had seen in 20 years. Alvarez said that in Chile, there are no opportunities like this for high school students. All technical training is taken after high school, she said. The exchange students are currently attending Wooster High School.
