To the Editor:

I am writing in support of Captain Charlie Hardman for sheriff. I have known Charlie and his family for many years. Charlie was a student at Smithville High School and also played football, wrestled, and ran track. His family has always been supportive of student athletes. His father, Rev. Ron Hardman, used to make sure the football teams had a meal together before Friday night games and was always there for the coaches and athletes.

After graduating from high school, Charlie Hardman began his career in law enforcement, which has been filled with great accomplishments and successes. But Charlie never forgot where he came from. For many years he volunteered to scout football games for Smithville. Even after he and Karen were married, she joined him and helped write the scouting reports. His work was a part of what has made Smithville football a success. He was always willing to do whatever was asked of him and enjoyed being a part of helping young men grow into young adults.

Today Charlie continues to be involved in high school athletes as a wrestling official. His demeanor and knowledge as a wrestling official has been recognized by many coaches and his fellow officials. He has served as president of the Wayne County Sports Officials and teaches courses to new and current officials.

That hard work and commitment to his family, career, and the community has prepared him to be our next Wayne County Sheriff. Wayne County will be well served to have Captain Hardman use his skills as sheriff. Please join me in voting March 6 for Captain Charlie Hardman for sheriff.
