William Van Scoder

William N. Van Scoder, 87, of Perrysville, died March 24, 2012, at Colonial Manor Health Care Center, Loudonville, following an extended illness.

William was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Hanover Township, Ashland County, and was the son of the late Walter and Lena Van Scoder. He was a 1943 graduate of Loudonville High School and a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He lived in the Mansfield area for many years before returning to southern Ashland County a few years ago. He was employed with the Ohio Penal Industries as an instructor before his retirement.

William was a member of American Legion Post 257, VFW Post 8586, and 40 et 8, and attended United Methodist Church, Loudonville. He loved trees and nature as evidenced by his enjoyment of woodworking and hunting.

William is survived by his wife, Irene Van Scoder, whom he married Oct. 12, 1951; son, Gregory (Jackie) Van Scoder of Wooster; daughters, Patricia Stewart of Mansfield and Paula Nelson of Hilton Head, S.C.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Van Scoder.

Services will be held March 29, at 11 a.m., at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville, with Rev. Bob Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Loudonville Cemetery, with military services conducted by the American Legion and VFW. Friends may call March 28, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
