Donald Smith

Donald Joseph Smith, 92, of Wooster, died peacefully April 8, 2012, at Wooster Community Hospital, following a brief illness.

Donald was born Oct. 21, 1919, in Wooster, the son of the late Guy W. and Sophia H. Smith. A lifelong resident of Wooster, he was a graduate of Wooster High School, where he played basketball. He was employed by Rubbermaid Corp. for 36 years, retiring in 1984, and was a member of Wooster United Methodist Church. Donald enjoyed the county fair, fishing, watching sports, and reading the newspaper.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Marie M. Smith, whom he married Dec. 23, 1951; children, Terry (Shirley), Roger (Shirley), Gary (Janet), and Dawn Smith, all of Wooster, Deborah (Don Klima) Harris of Arvada, Colo., Alyce (Tom) Sniff of Sharon Center, and Ronald (Charlotte) Smith of Ellicott City, Md.; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Betty) Smith of Wooster; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Catherine, Jean, and Eileen.

Services will be held April 12, at 1 p.m., at McIntire, Bradham & Sleek Funeral Home, Wooster, with Rev. Larry Black officiating. Burial will be in Wooster Cemetery. Friends will be received one hour prior to services.

Donald had been a resident of West View Manor Nursing Home since 2010. The family would like to thank West View Manor and Hospice & Palliative Care of Greater Wayne County for their excellent care.
