Wayne County Schools Career Center Business Professionals of America members walked to raise funds for Wayne County Special Olympics athletes April 19. The student organization set a goal to raise $500, and collected $786, exceeding that goal by $286. Amanda Groover of Wooster was the top fundraiser for the event. The walkers had taken pledges for donations, and all money collected will stay local to help the Wayne County athletes. The money will be presented to Special Olympics at the BPA awards ceremony May 15, at 7 p.m., in the school commons.

Two athletes from Wayne County Special Olympics, accompanied by Don Rammel, spoke to BPA members about their events, which will be held this month. The athletes showed their medals and talked about their achievements.

Special Olympics is a national service project for BPA. Janice Anderson, Chris Boyan and Theresa Chmura are advisers for BPA at the career center.
