Haudenschild, King, Dickson and Gardner victorious at NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway
NAPA Auto Parts Wayne County Speedway (WCS) opened the gates and treated fans to a night of exciting side by side racing in all divisions. The racing was sponsored by Rays Garage of Creston.
In the Fisher Performance 410 Sprints two good friends, Danny Mumaw and Sheldon Haudenschild, lead the field to the green flag. On the opening lap, Mumaw jumped out to the early lead. It was short-lived, as Haudenschild flew around Mumaw on the high side to power to the point. On lap two, the caution flew for Mitch Harble, Ed Neumeister and Bryce Dickson getting together in turn two. Neumeister and Harble retired for the night with mechanical issues. The racing resumed and Haudenschild extended his lead over Mumaw, Rob Chaney, Chris Myers and Cole Duncan. On lap six Haudenschild, setting a blistering pace, caught the back markers and jockeyed lapped traffic. Mumaw closed the gap on the leader as they maneuvered lapped traffic. Chaney retired with mechanical issues as he was running third, handing it over to Myers. Haudenschild still lead, but Mumaw closed the gap and caught the leader. On lap 21, Mumaw closed in on the leader as he entered turn two. Mumaw spun 360 degrees and held on to second place. In the closing laps Cole Duncan caught Myers and kept pressuring him for third place. At the checkered flag it was Haudenschild coming home the winner. He was followed by Mumaw, Myers, Duncan and Andrew Palker. Winning heat races were Chaney, Duncan and Haudenschild. Winning the B-Main was Duffy Smith.
In the Lias Tire Super Late Models Shane McLoughlin and Ryan Markham lead the field to the green flag. McLoughlin powered to the point to take the lead over Markham and Charlie Duncan. With McLoughlin pulling a five car advantage, Duncan began pressuring Markham for second. On lap seven, seventh starting Russ King moved around Cory Conley to snag the fourth position. McLoughlin still lead but the eyes were on King as he caught Duncan and Markham and powered past them on the highside on lap 10. King, looking like he was shot out of a rocket with a great run off on turn two, caught McLoughlin and crossed back under and dove under McLoughlin to take the lead. McLoughlin held off a charging Markham as the laps clicked away. Door to door McLoughlin and Markham battled for second with Markham using the high side and McLoughlin down low. Conley stepped up the pressure and battled for fourth with Duncan. On lap 19, the caution flew for Dave Hornikle. The caution erased the lead King held over McLoughlin and on the restart McLoughlin dove under King to try to take the lead. King jumped back out ahead of McLoughlin and left him to battle with Markham for second. At the finish line it was King, McLoughlin, Markham, Duncan and Conley. It was the second win of the 2012 season for King at NAPA Auto Parts WCS. Duncan, King, McLoughlin and Conley won heat races and Thomas Baker won the B-Main.
In the Bremenour Electric Modifieds, Travis Dickson and Kevin Morehouse paced the field to the green flag. At the drop of the green flag it became a family affair, as father Mark Dickson pulled along the high side to battle his son, Travis, for the lead. On the fourth lap, Mark nipped Travis to lead as the cars crossed the start finish line. Travis, using the inside line, battled back to pressure Mark for the lead. As the father-son combo battled for the lead, Morehouse stalked the leaders three car lengths back. Lap after lap the front two raced side by side not giving an inch to each other. On lap seven the caution flew for Jon Sluka who spun out. Travis held the lead, but on the restart Mark moved back to the high side of his son to try to take the lead. Travis held the position, but he had his hands full with father Mark. On lap 15, the 2012 Bremenour Electric Modified point leader, Norm Aronhalt, moved into the fourth position and began pressuring Morehouse for third. Eyes returned to the point as Mark battled side by side with son, and on lap 17 took the lead at the line. The lead was short-lived, as on lap 18 Travis fought back and regained the lead using the low line. With the white flag in hand, Mark powered past Travis, but Travis wasn’t giving up. When the checkered flag dropped on the Bremenour Electric Modifieds at the finish line it was the elder Dickson coming home the winner just ahead of son Travis Dickson, Morehouse, Aronhalt and Darrick Hubbard. Travis Dickson and Morehouse won heat races.
In the Thrifty Discount Muffler Pure Stocks, Brandon Gardner jumped out to the early lead just ahead of Jeremy Lynch and Jeremy Dickerson. During the early stages Gardner withstood an onslaught of cautions to hold the point. On lap seven, the battle for the lead turned into a three-car battle as Gardner, Dickerson and Lynch raced three wide. The leaders, setting a blistering pace, caught lapped traffic on lap nine. Things got dicey as Gardner and Dickerson split lapped traffic, with Gardner diving low and Dickerson moving around traffic on the high side. That move allowed Dickerson to wrestle the lead away from Gardner. On lap 11, Gardner passed Dickerson to take back the lead but the caution flag flew and the field had to reset to the last completed lap, giving the lead back to Dickerson. When racing resumed, Gardner powered past Dickerson to take the lead. Lynch, wanting a piece of the action, began looking under Dickerson and took second place away from Dickerson. Lynch was unable to catch the leader, as Dickerson battled back to fight for the second-place spot. Taking the win was Gardner just ahead of Dickerson, Lynch, Josh Miller and Tony Cline. Dickerson, Lynch and Gary Hoopingarner won heat races.
