It’s important to handle food properly, as microbial contamination can happen anywhere, at any time. A special class will be conducted June 25 to tackle the issue head on.

Wooster Community Hospital and Local Roots have joined together to promote safe food handling. Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) are used to reduce risk on farms. Microbial contamination can happen anywhere from farm to fork. On the farm, contamination sources vary from animals, water, soil, and, above all, humans.

Local Roots will host GAP training on Monday, June 25, from 6-9 p.m. The 3-hour training program will be taught by Ohio State University Extension agents and will help participants determine if they should have their farm GAP certified. Attendees will be awarded a certificate of participation upon completion.

The cost is $10 per person and includes dinner from Local Roots Cafe’ for those who preregister/prepay, courtesy of Wooster Community Hospital. Dinner will be served between 5 and 6 p.m.

Register at the Local Roots market, contact them via email at roots@LocalRootsWooster.com or by phone at 330-263-5336.
