Orrville man arrested

file photo

During the early morning hours of August 3, deputies arrested James Schmidt, 28, of Orrville for possession of methamphetamine, as well as having the chemicals to manufacture the drug.

A deputy on patrol stopped Schmidt in East Union Township for an equipment violation. During this traffic stop, the deputy discovered the drugs and chemicals. Further investigation caused deputies to believe that Schmidt had discarded several firearms from his vehicle prior to the traffic stop. These firearms were recovered by the deputies.

One of the firearms was a “sawed off” semiautomatic rifle with two fully loaded 30 round magazines attached. All the recovered firearms were loaded. Schmidt is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing any firearms.

Medway Drug enforcement responded to the scene and is very involved in this ongoing case.

Charged with illegal assembly of chemicals Schmidt was held in the Wayne County Jail on a $25,000 bond until Monday evening when the bond was posted.

The investigation into this case continues and additional charges are expected.
