Evelyn was born May 6, 1923, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, to the late Leslie G. and Freda M. Scarff, and married Virgil R. Graber on August 13, 1944. He died in 2003.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Goshen College and a master’s degree in education from Indiana University. She worked as an elementary and junior high school teacher in Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, and Elkhart, Ind., for 20 years, retiring in 1971.
Evelyn was a member of Prairie Street Mennonite Church, Elkhart, Ind., the Indiana Teacher’s Association, and the Elkhart County Teacher’s Association. She was an accomplished potter and sculptor and loved to travel with Virgil.
Surviving are a daughter, Joan L. (Jerry) Kauffman of Orrville; sons, Dr. Donald D. (Sherrill) Graber of Cottonwood, Ariz., Dr. Thomas V. (Melissa) Graber of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and Dr. Robert B. (Rose) Graber of Kirksville, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Bernice Engelhard of Marceline, Mo.; and sisters-in-law, Ann F. Scarff of Wayland, Iowa, and Delores Scarff of Lake Ozark, Mo.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by brothers, Glenn and Raymond Scarff.
Service were held August 6, at the West View Manor Chapel, Wooster, with Pastor Eric Fairhurst officiating. Graveside services were held in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart, Ind.
