Free clothing giveaway offered in Orrville

Orrville Christian & Missionary Alliance Church and Learning for Life Adult Education will partner to provide free clothing to members of local communities.

Orrville Christian & Missionary Alliance Church and Learning for Life Adult Education will partner to provide free clothing to members of local communities. Giveaway hours in the church's fellowship hall will be Tuesday, Aug. 1 and Wednesday, Aug. 2 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon.
Learning for Life Adult Education, under the direction of Linda McAninch, has been organizing giveaways in Orrville since 2000. These giveaways are an opportunity for families and individuals to find a wide variety of free clothing. Due to the large crowd, no baby strollers are allowed until noon on Tuesday.
Donations of clean clothing, accessories and household linens are needed. Children’s, baby, adult and teen clothing, shoes, coats, sweaters, work clothes and uniforms are especially needed. All items will be given away free.
Items may be dropped off at the CMA Church, 300 S. Walnut St., Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6-7:30 p.m.
One also can call to arrange other drop-off times. Pickup may be available if there is no other transportation resource. Tax receipts are available.
This community resource provides clothing for approximately 2,000 individuals. These giveaways add a measure of comfort for those with a large family, economic stress, illness, unemployment, family separations or tragedies. Even families and individuals with steady employment sometimes have difficulty stretching incomes to provide school or work clothes.
All families are encouraged to donate outgrown clothing and look for items that fit their growing children. Everyone is welcome to take clothing; no donations are necessary. No paperwork will be required. No items may be taken to sell. Tables are continually restocked during the two-and-a-half-day event.
Volunteers from the community are needed to sort clothing. Court-ordered community-service volunteers are welcome but must preregister.
