Wilderness Center holding annual birdseed sale

The Wilderness Center is holding its annual birdseed sale with discounted rates on a variety of seed selections.


The Wilderness Center, 9877 Alabama Ave. SW, Wilmot, is holding its annual birdseed sale with discounted rates on a variety of seed selections. 
There are a variety of seed mixes available:
—No Mess is a mix for all types of birds with no waste and hulls to clean up and great around patios, gardens and decks.
—Premium is 40 percent oil sunflower seeds, 30 percent white millet, 25 percent cracked corn and 5 percent wheat.
—Standard is an economical mixture for most feeding situations.
—Black Oil Sunflower is effective at attracting a wide variety of bird species such as grosbeaks, finches, nuthatches, chickadees and titmice.
—Shelled Sunflower Chips is a mix of hulled sunflower seeds, which have a high oil content and provide birds with an extra kick of energy.
—Niger Thistle Seed is the preferred food for finches.
—Safflower is a favorite seed of the northern cardinal. House finches and mourning doves also will feed on this type. Most squirrels will leave it alone, and it can be placed on platform feeders.
Visit www.wildernesscenter.org for an order form. Return the form and payment by Oct. 28. Orders will be ready for pickup on Nov. 10 and 11 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Nov. 12 from 1-5 p.m. Stop by the TWC Nature Store during pick-up hours to receive 20 percent off all bird-feeding accessories.
TWC is in need of volunteers to help with birdseed pickup. Those interested should email Debbie Casto at store@wildernesscenter.org.
